DUAL Asset’s Christmas Charity Support
23rd December 2020
This year has been far from normal, so we decided to do our Christmas giving a little differently too. Instead of sending client gifts or staff supplies for our virtual Christmas party, the team unanimously voted to donate £6000 across three charities, who are now in need of support more than ever due to the health pandemic this year.
Our three chosen charities were The Big Yellow Bus Project, Body & Soul and Mind. Please see below how our donation has helped support them in their work this Christmas.
Body and Soul – www.bodyandsoulcharity.org
Body & Soul supports children, young people and families living with and affected by HIV. HIV is inextricably linked to poverty and the majority of the families Body & Soul support live in sub-standard housing in the most deprived wards of London. Those who are able to work are on informal contracts with no opportunity to furlough and families are often living off one very low income. Body & Soul provides age specific practical and therapeutic support to members of entire families, giving them a space to be themselves, to recover from their past and continue to build productive, happy and safe lives. From Positive Parents Place to support HIV+ mums and their babies and toddlers, to mindfulness sessions for over 50s, from LEGO projects for adolescents to career workshops for young adults, Body & Soul provides something to suit everyone. During the first 3 months of the Covid-19 pandemic Body & Soul supported 1,800 members on their HIV support programme. The donation has helped Body & Soul send some Christmas love to its members via essential food hampers for families and toys for children, straight to their doorstep. They have now delivered over 500 gifts to members.
Big Yellow Bus Project – www.bigyellowbusproject.co.uk
The Big Yellow Bus Project is a local charity that offers shelter, food and support to homeless adults in Cirencester. The bus provides shelter for up to seven ‘guests’ with partitioned sleeping berths on the upper deck, two for female occupancy with secure doors. The lower deck is fitted with a small kitchen, communal seating and woodburning stove. It is funded entirely by donations and grants and run by volunteers from the community it serves. Every penny donated to The Big Yellow Bus Project goes to improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Our donation has helped to ensure that no one needs to be sleeping out on the streets of Cirencester this Christmas and throughout the rest of the winter.
Mind – www.mind.org.uk
Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. 2020 has been a year of anxiety and uncertainty and more people need them than ever before. Mind campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. For 70 years they have been committed to making sure that everyone experiencing a mental health problem can access the support they need and is treated with the respect they deserve.
£20 can help run their online peer support community Side by Side for an hour, helping people connect with others and feel less alone.
£40 can help their Infoline answer calls, providing someone with vital support and information about help available for them.
£50 can help them campaign for better mental health services from the Government, ensuring people get the support they need, as soon as they need it.
£100 can pay the cost of one of their Infoline or Legal Line advisors for a whole day. Thanks to donations they can maintain their advisors, ready to answer calls for support and help.
